In January, the Milton Public announced their participation in the BoomWriter Technology Heroes Program, a new initiative that helps teachers become “Technology Champions” in their classrooms. As one of the first school districts in Massachusetts to partner with BoomWriter Media, Milton Public Schools engaged in a Web-based literacy program aimed at increasing students’ performance levels and interest in reading and writing through the use of technology.
To celebrate the success of their program, Milton High and Glover Elementary School announced a Publishing Party to show off their works. Below is a sample of their announcement and a customer testimonial pulled from their latest newsletter.
Anonymous asked: I would like to upload an actual picture of the school. I tried to upload a picture which I copied and pasted in a word document. I clicked on the browse button, located my file, tried to upload, but was unsuccessful. Can you kindly give me instructions on how to upload an actual picture? Thank you
From your description it sounds like you are trying to upload a word doc instead of an image. Please save the image to your computer (as a jpeg, giff or png) and then upload that to the site.
Young writers, this post is for you! We’ve got a great new way to spend a week during the hot summer days. Jeff Kinney, the New York Times best-selling author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, will lead the BoomWriter Storytellers Camp. Mr. Kinney just took home another honor, the sixth annual Children’s Choice Book Awards’ Author of the Year for Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7: The Third Wheel (Amulet Books/Abrams). BoomWriter is honored to work with him and now you can collaborate and create a story with him, too.
The Digital Public Library of America launched April 18th with the goal of linking America’s libraries, archives, and museums and making them freely available to everyone. This platform will enable new and transformative uses of our newly-digitized cultural heritage. From an historical standpoint and for preservation and accessibility it’s wonderful, similar to the idea of restoring films and preserving both newly-mastered film and digital copies.
Do you remember how your favorite teachers engaged and inspired you? How about the best of your children’s teachers? Surely they have the same love of interacting and creating that is necessary for connecting with others when imparting knowledge and understanding or eliciting artistic response. Some technology might be radically different today but as long as those teaching incorporate new tools wisely then our students may enjoy a more productive schooling.

The BoomWriter Storytellers Camp is coming! Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney and WGBH will participate in BoomWriter Media’s summer camp and help budding authors avoid summer learning loss with fun, project-based week-long writing camps. This is possible because BoomWriter Media’s exciting, easy-to-use digital literacy platform helps kids master critical thinking, language, and writing skills and foster creativity.
Anonymous asked: Is there a way to mass upload/create student accounts, without having them use email verification?
There is currently no mass upload facility in BoomWriter.
There are however 2 ways of signing your students up to BoomWriter:
The first as you mention is by asking the students and their parents to sign them up by using a valid email address.
The second option is you can create account for your students. The accounts that you create do not use email addresses. You will need to create one student at a time though. You can action this by logging into you account and heading over to the Students tab.
I hope this answers your question.
